About Us

Imagine this: You visit your dentist at 9:30am, let him help you with a mini implant procedure that requires less than two hours, then you go out and meet your friends for lunch.

You find that you can eat comfortably, have a great conversation, laugh and talk with confidence.

You also recall that it was a painless procedure, hardly any surgery and the price was so affordable.

This is all too good to be true, you say. But, it is true. And it’s been happening to thousands of ordinary folks who decided to give the procedure a shot.

They have all benefited from the application of mini dental implants, whether for long-term support of structures such as crowns and bridges, or to stabilize dentures, especially loose lower dentures.

A mini revolution

The idea of MDI took root some 20 years ago, when a New York dentist Dr Victor I. Sendax conceived and designed it. It was in response to the many failures and drawbacks of the much larger conventional implants. Even today the above statement is valid and the growth in the use of mini dental implants is significant.

However, such therapy usually required three to six month procedures, which involved cutting and drilling into the jaw bone, stitching of the gum tissue, and reopening for further surgical treatment.

Enter the idea of an ultra-small implant screw that is not only acceptable by the human body, but also requires no bone surgery or opening of gums, and is practically painless to insert!

The rest, as they say, is history. Today, the Mini Drive Lock (MDL) System of mini implant from USA has the stamp of approval by Food & Drug Administration (FDA) of America for securing loose dentures and fixing crowns and bridges.

Satisfied with the technical and clinical evidence that the product was safe for public use and had beneficial attributes, the FDA granted its formal consent to market the MDL as a long-term device.

Small but strong, painless and cost-effective.

The MDL implants are remarkably small, with a standard diameter of 2.0mm only for its smallest, and cast from a titanium alloy. Imagine the size of tiny screws but considerably stronger.

Your dentist would initially give you a local anaesthetic, just as he would do for fillings or extractions. Then usually without the need to cut your gums or bone, he would screw the implant into your jawbone through your gums. And he can do all this without you experiencing any pain!

What’s more, the whole treatment is very affordable since it does not require multiple stages of surgery. You also spend less “harrowing” time on the dentist’s chair.

Smile, Singapore

Little wonder the mini implant system is such a success. Since its launch in the US, the system has countless people, both young and old, smiling confidently in Europe, Australia, America, Asia and other parts of the world.

Here in Singapore, minis, since its introduction about five years ago, has also brought smiles back to many, including patients who are medically compromised and for whom conventional implants were unsuitable.

In close consultation with a physician, patients with controlled diabetes, osteoporosis and those on blood-thinning medication can enjoy the benefits of minis. Parkinson’s disease patients with dental problems, too, can have minis to help them chew and look better.

Mini is an innovative system for crowns, bridges and the stabilising of loose dentures. It can solve your problem, painlessly and at really affordable cost.

A leading independent survey done in America recently states the following:-

1) Minidental implant is moving into mainstream practice in America.

2) Minis are indicated when patients have minimal bone, refuse grafting, poor health, minimal financial resources and the desire to have minimally invasive surgery.

3) Minis are minimally invasive, have moderate cost, easily removed if they fail, easily accomplished and have excellent patient acceptance.

4) The use of minis will expand and provide otherwise unavailable service for patients.

The survey made this important observation – “whether or not they will replace conventional diameter implant placement in situation where either could be used is yet to be determined, but is likely to happen”.

In the latest Clinicians Report (a major clinical publication on concept, techniques and dental products in USA), “Root Form Implants have been the most important innovation in dentistry since the air rotor nearly 50 years ago. Million of people globally have need of retention and support for removable prostheses, crowns, or fixed prostheses. However, many do have adequate bone quantity in which to place root form implants 3mm or over in diameter, and for financial or health reasons, they cannot have bone grafting. Small diameter “mini implants” serve these patients. Small implant, ranging from 1.8mm to 2.9mm in diameter, have now proven themselves capable of supporting complete dentures, removable partial dentures, fixed prostheses, and even some single tooth replacements. Although criticized by some, the research is supportive of these implants with proper treatment planning and placement”. This statement from the Clinicians Report vindicates the use of mini dental implants. In fact, it is the fastest growing sector in implant dentistry in recent years. If you decide on minis, you are seeking a better choice in the use of dental implant.

 1) Are minidental implants only for temporary use in the human jaw?

· This is a misconception even amongst some dentists and dental specialists who have not kept abreast with what is actually happening in the field of dental implants. They think that minis are only for temporary use only.

Implants both minis and conventional are not generic products. Whether conventional or minis it depends on the brand of the product. This is the reason why FDA gives approval to specific brands. It is important that you be aware of this aspect of dental implants.

Mini Drive Lock (MDL) minis are for long term use. It was conceived and developed so as to address the drawbacks and failures of larger diameter conventional implants.

2) What assurance can we get that minis are for permanent use in the mouth?

· Nothing is permanent not even your natural teeth. Hence we use the phrase “long term use”.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) of America gave its stamp of approval to MDL implants for long term use for securing loose dentures and fixing crowns and bridges firmly in the mouth.

FDA is very stringent and their stamp of approval is taken by other regulatory authorities worldwide as a very reliable benchmark.

Minis is the way forward in dental implant treatment and the common sense way to addressing loose dentures and fixing crowns and bridges when a person has unsightly gaps in their mouth or no teeth at all.

3) My mother has no teeth, has very loose dentures, suffer from diabetes and close to 90 years old – can she be a candidate for implants?

· Probably not for conventional implants - Conventionals are usually traumatizing and not at all kind to elderly patient. With the use of Minis your dentists or specialists will not need to cause any severe trauma by “digging” bone as it utilizes a less invasive procedure. These minis can secure loose dentures or even allow your dentist to place full mouth fixed teeth with very little discomfort to even frail old ladies.

She can look good and above all function well especially when eating her food! Two main problems of the elderly are that they cannot chew well and cannot speak well because of loose dentures and then find life a misery!

4) Will there be any problem of hygiene and cleaning of the crowns and bridges?

· Whether conventional or minis you will be taught by your dentist or specialist how to maintain oral hygiene. Oral irrigation do help in the cleaning process for both minis and conventional.

5) Are there any advantages in placing conventional implants instead of minis?

· In fact there are more advantages placing minis – it is very much less painful (almost painless) not traumatic like conventional, easily accomplished and have excellent patient acceptance.

A recent survey in USA has predicted that minis will eventually replace conventional implants as the method of choice!

If your dentist or specialist says that “minis” don’t work – you should consult a dentist or specialist who will give you the correct information about minis and conventional implants.

Minis can be placed in any site where you can place conventional implants. It can also be placed in areas of the jaws where conventional cannot be introduced without building bone first.

6) Why are conventional so much more expensive than minis?

· Well, you are paying for unnecessarily complex procedures when you probably could get better results, under less invasive procedures with mini implants.

In my view, you are paying for a system that may become less used and reserved for only a few very complex cases.

By doing mini implants you could be saving a whole lot of money for good or better results.

For instance, for a full mouth reconstruction of fixed teeth for one jaw with the much better minis you can save as much as $60,000.00 to $70,000.00 - money you could use for other purposes. Thankfully Minis will save your whole lot of cash!

Today with the escalating cost of medical care you could use the difference you save for your future medical care. Think about it.

Consider minis as your first option.

7) What about failures with Mini Dental Implants?

· It must be recognized that all implant system as well as natural teeth are subject to potential failure due to natural causes, including osteoporosis, poor oral hygiene, wear and tear attrition, poor health, heavy stressful biting habits, and lack of follow up dental maintenance care. Mini dental implants similarly do not carry any actual or implied guarantees as to longevity. However the loss of minidental implant is a far less critical event to the patient since it may be replaced at relatively – minimal cost compared to conventional implants, and with minimal bone or gum deterioration.

R E M E M B E R:-

 · Ultra small width of mini dental implants offers a much more comfortable margin of safety.
